Better and Better
Émile Coué, the French psychologist and pharmacist, is known for his role in promoting self-improvement based on optimistic, conscious auto-suggestion. In the context of hypnosis, these auto-suggestions were "intentions" as described in the Law of Concentrated Attention. In short, that which you focus upon is magnified, and that which you believe to be true is made more real. Therefore, when giving yourself the choice between delight and disappointment, seek the path to experience greater delight. When meditating or using self-hypnosis, consider closing your practice with the following, "Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better." Coué would encourage clients to repeat this phrase many times throughout the day as part of a ritual.
While breathing deeply and slowly, we recommend stating this affirmation with purpose and feeling for several minutes. If you practice this consistently for several days, you will begin to experience a sense of calm and ease. Try it before going to bed - or better yet, when waiting in a queue or sitting in traffic.
